How long do batteries usually last? Got it a few days ago and the low battery icon appeared already. Is that normal?

on nimhs my a610 lasts for hundreds of pictures

alkalines are supposed to be weaker than nimhs

Ahh okay, using the default alkalines they provided with the camera.

I heard that browsing the pictures and using the flash empties the batteries pretty fast. Any truth to that?

I'm sure it does.

The LCD uses the batteries pretty fast.

And get rechargeable NiMH batteries. They last SO much longer, like 3x as long... and you can recharge them almost for free.

My sister took maybe 300 pictures while messing around and learning how to use her A610 and the alkalines were still going strong when she replaced them with NiMHs.
