question about cable and dsl

so, i just upgraded from 3meg dsl to 6meg cable. so, as i expected, my download speeds are way faster. however, just serfing the net is really really slow. sometimes, the internet just stops working completely, and i have to close my browser window and wait a few minutes before pages start loading again. it seems like, it just stops working for a while, but as soon as it does work, it goes really fast.

is cable always like this, or what is going on?

Do you notice the lights on your modem going off and back on? You could have a weak signal and your modem is resyncing a lot.

no, the lights are always on. its like i am waiting in a queue or something. when it works, its fast, but it just stops working sometimes. its like an interstate highway with red lights on it.

Start>Run>CMD>ping 4.2.2.2 -t

leave running for a few hours and then Ctrl+C to see the results...

Looking at packet loss statistics.

Hmm.. Why do you think it is a DSL service problem and not your computer Network/Interent configuration?

:sun:

ok, i found this site here. go down to the place where it says: "Why do websites take forever to connect, but then load quickly?" it recommended that i change my DNS server. so, i went here and changed my primary DNS server from auto to 199.166.24.253 and i set my secondary to 4.2.2.2

the problem seems to have gone away, its amazing. so far, all the web pages are just coming right up.

also, i ran that ping for an hour, and there was no packet loss. i hope the problem is solved.
