I do my cardio on an empty stomach. Is it better to wait for 1 - 1 1/2 hrs after the workout to promote fat buring or is it okay to eat immediately afterwards?
Your body continues to burn fat at an accelerated rate for up to two hours after working out...so if you're trying to lose weight, then the best bet would be to wait an hour or two before eating. Just don't let yourself pigout from all the time spent being hungry 🙂
And you're on the right track as far as doing cardio on an empty stomach goes. The absolute best time of day is in the morning, after you wake up but before breakfast. Again, just don't let yourself overdo the eating afterwards.
After my cardio, I'm, eating 1/2 cup Fibre 1, 1/2 cup soy milk and 1/2 cup of strawberries plus a little yogurt, cottage cheese, or tofu so I'm going pretty light.
Eat like a half hour later because you still get the benefit of burning calories at an accelerated rate, and it helps to make our muscles rebuild faster.
I have often heard the cardio on an empty stomach as well. After a night of fasting your body is out of glycogen in the liver (or in the process of making more) and your body has no other option other than start burning fat as a source for energy. However, I find cardio in the middle of the day easier than cardio in the morning but no pain no gain right?
Definately eat as soon as you're done doing cardio. Your body will be running on the fat in your body and as soon as you eat food your body will digest it at 300% faster than normally. (Mind you i got the 300% stat from Body-for-Life, a book which i give very little credit to, but what the hell)
I workout after I get off work for the night...usually about 3am. Maybe I should try getting up and doing my cardio before work then weight training after work. Something to think about anyway...
