question about burning cds

Junior Member
i can make data cds that come directly from my hard drive, but when it comes to copying cds , i am unable.

problems:
#1)
I use adaptec ez cd creator, and it freezes when it tries to "test digital audio" from the cd rom drive.
#2)
if i use other cds, it sometimes skips that part, and goes directly to the cd copy process, but at about 97 % the program stops and says "error reported by output device" ,
"The CD-Recorder wasn't able to write to the CD, because a previous write operation was not completed"

here is what i have already tried:
#1)Digital audio cable is connected from my Master drive (Lg brand CD R) to the port on my motherboard( i have onboard audio)
#2) Digital audio cable is connected from my Slave drive(standard 48x cd drom) to the second port on my motherboard)
#3) tried to use this cd burning software program called HOTBURN, and it didnt even detect that i had a CDrw at all.
#4)i tried using diferent brand CD-R drives, and diferent brand blank CD's... still the same problem

im using windows 98 second edition, and have a duron 600 mhz processor,
the only other thing i could think of is to play around with the settings/checkmarks in my cd rom drive properties inside of the device manager. what should i have them set to?

please any suggestions are so appreciated

Have you tried reisntalling your EZ CD Creator software?

Also - are you trying to do anything else (multitasking) while copying?

I would also try Nero or Diskjuggler, but that may screw up your EZ CD Creator. If you are comfortable using EZ CD Creator - try to get it working properly before attempting different software.

When coping disks, have you tried to select the option for 'copy cd source contents to HD first' and not 'on the fly'? Also try reducing your burn speed alittle. Make sure no other programs start up in the background when the process is going on.

You might also want to try CloneCD or Nero instead of EZ CD Creator. Since the Adaptec (Roxio) software is known for coasters. Personally I use the Plextor software that came with my drive, but alot of people have had great luck with Nero.

BTW, another problem with your burning is that the LG drive you are using does not support BUrN proof to my knowledge. IF the problem persists you might want to look into the LiteOn 10x10x40 with BUrN proof for $95 from accessmicro.

Some data CDs have very good copy protection so u can't copy them. Try copying a demo disk from a magazine, if that works u will know that the disks u r trying to copy are copy protected

Disclaimer:
I do not condone the copying of copywrited data, nor do I participate in this activity (just had to add that!)😀
