I am looking into upgrading my burner from 8x to a 16x minimum. I did some research and ended up with some unanswered questions.

1)Plextors are regarded by most as the best cdrw out there...but there has been rumors about problems with their 16x. Could anyone give me a link with an article on this?

2)Yamaha 16x seems to be out of question since it is only *partially* 16x because of their CAV. Does everyone agree?

3)Does tdk/sanyo 16x and above support all burning modes as Plextor? Also how is their quality and burning time compared to plextor 16x?

thanks

Just a common misconception here. The Yamaha is indeed 16x CAV, that means the speed drops below 16x in some time of the writing. But the fact is, no 16x burners are true CLV, not Plextor, not TDK, nobody, they use a different technology called Zone-CLV, which ALSO drops below 16x in some point of the burning.

If you ask me now, I would get the Yamaha 20x or the TDK 24x. The new Yamaha incorporates some new technologies such as SafeBurn and ExactLink, yet still triumphs the digital extraction benches. Read the review here, CDRLabs gave it a 10/10. The TDK is also a nice drive, earning a 9/10.
