I increased the weight on my barbell by 10lbs yesterday and my forearms (and other muscles) feel perfectly fine today save for that satisfying little ache but my right wrist is hurting this evening. Is there any way to avoid this or did I just exceed what my wrists can take while exercizing my forearms?

As far as I've experienced, I think that you added a bit too much weight. Your bicep couldn't handle it, so the strain was transferred to your wrist. Take it easy next time.

To me, at least, 10lb is a big increase for a wrist movement. You probably didn't damage it, yet, but you might if you keep hammering away at it. For my forearms, I go for higher reps to get a good burn.

And not really related: watch Drunken Master for wrist exercises. (seriously). :p
