If one was written out from my account (funds deducted already) but was written payable to the wrong person, can they just re-write another one and void the original? I need it by tomorrow so I can't wait ANY business days. It says payable to my name (WTF?)... of course the branch is closed now and Chase customer service says I'd have to ask the branch.

What is it for? When I had a bank check drawn up for my housing down payment, it was made payable to myself. I'm not sure how that works, but it did.

it's for our house closing tomorrow... the stupid thing is it says the intended recipient's name as the remitter... how's it possible that my bank says it's from someone else (when it's my money) payable to me? I'm also stupid for not double checking "payable to"... all I made sure of was that her name was spelled correctly.

At least I noticed now and not while at the table.

Unfortunately, you have to put the money in and take another check out....

This is needed because you cannot make edits on a bank check. A simple cross out and initial does not work. If you are lucky, they will print out the same check and just rename it, but chances are the checks are premade.

Uhh... I somehow doubt a bank would put a hold on the funds from their own bank check. There's usually no hold on any bank check. (Although People's did put a hold on a check from my credit union.)
So if it's payable to you, there should be no issue. You can just deposit it and withdraw the funds immediately.
