Hi fellow ATOT'ers :D

I have a question about my car insurance. Here is my background:
August 1st, 1999 - age 16 - received a speeding ticker for 22 mph over limit (77 in a 55)
May 29th, 2000 - age 17 - received a speeding ticket for 18 over, went to court, I pled guilty to a faulty brake light instead of speeding

I am now 19 and work for the federal government. I heard that Geico has special rates for government employees (can anyone verify???) but I am unsure if I need to claim my speeding ticket from August 1st 1999. I was under 18 years of age, so I would think my record is sealed ... and I know that points expire once you turn 18....

When I call Geico, do I have to mention that I got a speeding ticket over 3 years ago???? I am assuming my rates will drop big time. And to all the people who are going to question me, I don't speed anymore, that is why I have any more tickets :D

Please help a poor college boy trying to pay tuition and insurance!:Q

Your driving record does not go away when you turn 18. At least not that I've ever heard of.

Maybe conviction of a DUI if you were charged as a minor, or something like that, but, speeding tickets are still going to be on there. You don't have to tell the insurance companies about the ticket but they will find it at somepoint and adjust your rates accordingly... which might be higher than you are paying now. You should therefore be honest with them upfront when getting your quote(s).

Most insurance companies go back 3yrs checking your record. Lately they've been asking me for the past 5yrs when I get quotes. And there was no huge savings when I turned 25 and got married and had a child either. My rates keep going up up up.

Insurance sucks -- until you need to collect. [edit] and still might suck if they don't pay your claim at all or in full. [/edit]

my theory is "don't ask, don't tell." I work for an insurance company...and i hate insurance. they just keep rippin people off. If they don't ask, then fine...but if they do....either "fib" and say...no or tell that it should be off your record. If they need to find something out, they will. I don't know how gieco does it. Do you like in a state where you needfull coverage or in a state like MI that youi just need "no fault"?

I am sure that here in Ohio that all of your points go back to 0 once you turn 18. Anyone know the website which tells if it does or doesnt?? From my experience so far, they have been asking back the past 5 years *sigh*

Insurance does suck, I was in an accident and my current insurance (Nationwide) said that because my car has 80,000 miles, they wouldnt buy any new body panels for the car... and they werent even paying for the accident, another company was!:disgust:

Maybe now I know why my agent drives a 2002 Lexus LS430 with every option

I am going to get full coverage anyways... I just dont want to be stuck with a bill. We just raised our deductible to $1,000 ... so there was a nice drop in price on our insurance. I will be dissapointed if my ticket is still on my record :(

I guess I will have to call some agency to find out???

Thanks so far :)

Maybe it's different in Ohio but in California you can have your CRIMINAL record sealed if you were a minor at the time. Your driving record however accumulates from when you get your license. I believe 1 point drops every 3 years.

Criminal seals itself after 18 in Cali.
