Hello all -

I just installed the Catalyst Control Center from ATI for my new X1900XTX. Whenever I start the CCC and click on "ATI Overdrive", I see on the right my Graphics Processor Status and my Graphics Memory STatus.

Now, In Graphics Process Status it says Requested = 648MHz and Current VPU Clock=500Mhz. What does this mean? Does this mean I am running at 500MHz instead of 650MHz - which is the speed I thought this card runs at.

Same thing for the Graphics Memory Status. Requested = 774MHz and the Current Memory Clock=594Mhz.

Whats up with this? Thanks!!!

Never mind. I found the answer on ATI's web site. This is actually a cool feature..... See text below....

737-21597: Catalyst Control Center: Current Clock speed does not match the Requested speed

The information in this article applies to the following configuration(s):
Radeon X1000 series supporting Overdrive
In the Overdrive aspect of the Catalyst Control Center, the Requested clock speed matches the advertised clock of the product, however the Current Clock speed may report as lower.

This is a design feature of the products which reduce clock speeds while in 2D applications to enhance the product life by not placing unnecessary demands on the card. As 2D applications will not require the full capabilities of the card, this will not adversely affect performance.

When commencing a 3D or video intense application, the clock speeds will automatically increase to give the full performance of the card when needed. This can be seen using a dual monitor setup in an extended desktop configuration. If the Catalyst Control Center is set to the Overdrive aspect and moved to the secondary display, when a 3D application is launched on the primary display the Current Clock speed will be seen to increase in te Catalyst Control Center.

I got my HIS X1900XTX today but my issue is a little different. In 2D, my clocks are 400/600 but after playing a couple of games my clocks only went to 518/775. Obviously, I'm concerned about the 518 gpu clock. Any ideas? Bad bios?

On the good side, the fan is that terrible. Set to 100% and gaming for a while my temps only reached 63c.

I have dual monitors so I had the ATI Overdrive open on my second monitor so I could observe.

edit - just ran the ATI Overdrive Run autmoated clock configuration utilities

Results:

VPU Clock Requested was 690 but the Current VPU Clock never went above 551

Memory Clock Requested was 800 and the Current Memory Clock was 800.
