Newegg has one for sale which claims it's for the 2xxx cards, I have a 4850 and was wondering if this will work. I'd imagine they should be the same but I'm not too sure.

DVI to HDMI adapters are universal. It's just a simple change from one plug shape to another (but without the sound)

Sorry I should have been more specific, the ATI cards can do sound over DVI with this adapter. I'm just not sure if they changed anything from the 2xxx to the 4xxx cards.

For anyone who might see this thread and is looking for the same thing I am, I bought the 2xxx adapter off Newegg and it does not work with my 4xxx card. When I plug it in I get some not compatible message. :(

What's the goal?

Minimizing wires or just getting HD Audio to your speakers?

Personally I've had better luck with using onboard audio vs VGA audio. Does your MB have Optical connection? I would recommend using that.

This one works (gray color):

Says HD3000-HD6000 supported. Works fine for my HD5850 and worked fine for HD6850, HD4870, HD4350. HD3870, HD3850 and HD3450 (tested personally).

This one - no idea (black color):

Says HD2400/HD2600/HD2900, so I'm assuming it doesn't. Never had a HD2xxx card.

Which one did you buy?

The goal was to get audio and video from a PC to a TV. Oddly enough Newegg does have the Rev B adapter which works with 4/5xxx cards, but when you search for it, it doesn't come up. Not for me any ways. Froogle found it on Newegg for it. I just ordered Newegg already has it ready to ship. Will reduce another wire (running em 25 feet about) your suggestion was one I didn't even think of

I use a regular DVI->HDMI cable I bought from monoprice and it sends both audio and video to a TV using a 3850.
