Question about asus z97 deluxe sata ports

Hello,

I'm just putting together my new system, asus z97 deluxe, i7-4790k.

I cannot figure out which sata ports I am supposed to plug my hard drives into. I have one HDD and 2 SSDs. SSD1 = OS, SSD2 = games, HDD = storage. I have read that depending on what sata ports you use, other parts of the board (such as USB slots or other sata slots) are disabled. The IRQ assignments also show that the PCI Express slot I'm using shares an IRQ with one of the sata controllers, so I wanted to avoid using that one (this is just what I assume I want to be doing).

However, of the 12 sata slots, I cannot figure out which ones belong to which controller. Can anyone help me out?

Thanks a lot.

I have the Z97 Pro, which does not have as many SATA connections, but here's my guess:

Ports numbered 1 through 6 are on the Intel controller. Ports 7-10 are on an Asmedia controller. The last two ports are also Intel, but are meant for a future PCIe-based SSD. They can also be used as regular SATA ports, though.

Check your manual to see how the ports are numbered, and plug your drives into ports 1, 2, and 3.
