question about applying for a job...

i sent my resume to NYU hospital a couple months ago...around the end of july I got a postcard asking to call for to discuss an interview...the woman was on vacation for 2 or 3 weeks and when she got back it still took me about a week of calling at different times to get a hold of her...well mid/late august she sent me the job description she wanted me to apply for and let her know when i would be in NY, after looking at the job i called her back and had to call on 2 days to get a hold of her (i had learned before that leaving messages didnt seem to work)...

i told her i would be moving there mid to late sept., but could come up anytime for an interview, this was August 29th. She said, great and she wanted to check when her boss would be in so I could meet him too and she would get back to me, I gave her my email address (which she also has on my resume) so we wouldnt have to play phone tag anymore. She said, they interviewed someone for the position that week and wasnt sure if they were offering the job to them, but even if that position was filled she still wanted to interview me for other possible positions

Well thats the last I have heard from her...I called again yesterday or the day before (i forget) leaving a message again...

Can it hurt at all to keep calling? what is the normal time you wait before recalling a possible employer

It's 1) a hospital, and 2) a state run one. Suffice it to say, you're lucky if you here anything back by Christmas.

When my wife applied for a position in the pharmacy dept., it took almost three months from the time she submitted an application to the time she was actually hired.

She works for a state run hospital as well.

Isn't NYU private?
