question about AP.. new logon?

so I finally set up my an AP I bought on the FSFT forum about 2 years ago.

Buffalo airstation. configured it and connected it to an ethernet port on the other side of the house.

However, I see a new SSID being broadcast - is that normal? I use my password and am able to log in successfully to it. but, that means it and my main router are 2 different "connections" that I would need to manually switch betwee.

I had assumed it would just re-broadcast my main SSID and I would be able to flow from router to AP without changing connections.

what did I do wrong?

The "new" SSID is the problem, it should be the same as your origional SSID. I have a powerline AP at the far end of the house, but configured with the same SSID, an Extended Service Set for the same wireless network.

ok, thanks. i must have skipped the SSID config page on that AP.

it's funny b/c i have been using a repeater for the past 2 years assuming the same thing only only yesterday realized it had it's own SSID, too! fantastic. I've had this thing plugged in and thought I'd been connecting to it for years.. dummy
