Question about analog, digital and external receiver.

Would using the optical out of onboard SoundStorm to a 5.1DD receiver produce multi-channel sound in games, or would it be similar to the digital out of a Creative card where only the center produces sound? I don't mind keeping this on analog, but an increase in sound quality wouldn't hurt.

With the DD 5.1 encoding turned on, SoundStorm will always output a 5.1 signal. So yes, in your games you would get multi-channel sound.
