Question about an USB HDD

I'm having a bit of a problem. I'm trying to get data off this really old notebook HDD and have it connected using a USB adapter, which seems to work fine. The drive is being detected by windows, as shown in the picture below, but I can't see it in my computer or anywhere else for that matter...

Any ideas why?

Is the drive connected to power other than USB? If not, it may not have enough power to be visible to Windows XP.

You would be better off putting it in a powered external case, or connecting it to your IDE chain using this type of an adapter (very cheap!):

Is it viewable in disk management? If so, there may be corruption on the drive.

even if you try rebooting with teh drive attached ?

I get that sometimes if I plug in my usb - ata adapter w/o first powering up the drive.
