Question about an old dell computer

I have an old Dell running a celeron 400 as my back up computer. Now I have these parts. Duron 1000 Soyo kt266A MB GeFroce 2 pro video card. Now my question is can I drop that soyo mb into the old dell case. Will the dell power supply work on my spare parts. I know this will be an upgrade for free for my back up computer. I really do not want to get a new case and power supply for it if i don't have to.

Open it up and see if the power supply connection is 'normal' some dells had weird power supplies.

Duron 1ghz should be okay with a crappy power supply but you never know, I've had problems with a palomino 1.2ghz, kt266a, and a cheap psu (even though the 1.2 uses much less power than higher clocked AXPs).

If the power supply has the right connector, you'll probably be okay. OTOH a new case/psu is pretty cheap and it's quite the upgrade.

A lot of Dells are microATX. If the case only has 4 card slots at the back then it won't hold that mobo. If it has seven exposed slots, it may work. then check the arrangement of I/O ports on the back of the Dell and compare with the mobo arrangement. If they are the same, no probem. If they are different, then you will need to make sure the I/O shield (metal plate that surrounds the port area) is removable. If not, no go. Finally check the PSU. It will need to have the standard pinout ( Standard ATX Pinout ), some Dells don't (same connector, wrong arrangement of wires). And I would say that anything less than 200W may not work. If not you will need to replace the PSU.
...bh.

Where's the :sun: ?
