I have an Iomega 8x4x32 burner and I can burn MP3 files (anytime I try to burn the MP3 files in a audio format it does not work) and once and a while I can also burn programs that are stored on my hard drive.

I try to burn music cd's to the burner, programs from cds to the burner and also mp3 files from cd's to the burner and it tells me error. Ive burned all the way up to 10 of 11 music tracks from a cd and then it stops burning. The tray opens and it tells me "error"

does anyone know what Im doing wrong or are there settings I should be changing?

I bought a spindle of cds from Comp USA.. Eveyone I tried didnt work. I went to the www.iomega.com site it says try these cd's they have listed. I went to the store. Bought them, still isnt working..

Can anyone tell me what Im doing wrong??? I want to start burning so cd's and not having any luck.....

I even went out and bought a different burning software. MP3 Maker Gold.. still nothing....

🙁

Any help is VERY apperciated!
thanks🙁

sounds like you're getting buffer under runs ie the source of data can't keep up with the requirement of the burner.
there are a few simple things you can do:
if you're trying to burn cd>cd then your burner & cd/dvd drive are best on different ide channels.
don't do anything cpu intensive when burning.
enable DMA for both drives & hdd if you've not already done so.

ok.
im a little computer illiterate.. Can you explain those steps that I should be doing down a little more for the slow computer girl.. 🙂

thankyou!!!

Basically what hes trying to say is that when burning, your computer is trying to do to many things at once, and your burner can't keep up.

Are you running any other programs when burning anything???

Is your burner and your regular CD drive attached using the same cable?

Also, if you are burning an audio CD, I would suggest not burning at 8x anyways. If you burn at a lower speed (1x or 2x), you will probably find the sound quality to be better, as well as having more successfull burns.

I have this burner, its a great one.

Some tips:

1) Run nothing else when you burn, including browsing. This may be overly cautious, but it only takes a couple of minutes to burn a CD anyway.

2) Use your Plextor as both the source (reader) and writer. This involves swapping discs when you are copying but for technical reasons, using the Plextor drive will give you superior audio copies.

3) I'm a firm believer in using cheap CD blanks, but unfortunately the unlabeled Compusa ones really are crap. These are the only brand that I have had any substantial problems with. Imations work fine, and can be frequently found free after rebate.

4) Defrag your hard drive.

5) Enabling DMA is a very good tip-go to start button-settings-control panel-system-device manager. Find your CD drives and hard drive in the list, highlight them one at a time, click Properties, click Settings and put a check mark in the DMA box.

What software are you using? That could very well be the problem.

I dont even know why I bought this thing! I thought it would be so simple to burn cds and since Ive had it the only good thing thats come about it my 40 rebate.. *lol*

When I have tried to burn in the past, I dont have any other programs running. As far as both cd rom and burner on the same cable. Yes they are... hard drives are on 1 and cd roms are on the other. Is that bad?

I've tried to burn on 4x speed and it still doesnt burn.

I really appreciate everyones help!!

Thumper, I cant wait until I feel the same way you do about your burner. I know once I get it running I'll love it but its just up until that point... I have defraged the hard drive, also I dont run anything else just the burner when i try to burn.
I went to check out the system to enable the DMA and I dont have those DMA boxes. Is it because Im running Win 2000 that it could be different?

Also, Ive tried to burn with the software that comes with the burner called Adaptec and I just bought Magix Mp3 maker gold and both of them are giving me problems.
I went out and bought Memorex CD-R 700 MB 80 minute cds. like i said, i can burn MP3 files from my hard drive to a cd saving them in an mp3 format, its just going from cd to cd or using my mp3 files to make an audio cd that isnt working...

🙁
