Question about aerobic workouts

I'm 22, 5'8 1/2ish, 180ish pounds, gained 30 in 2~ years from metabolism slowing down (I assume) and I think I grew a little taller as well.

My friend downloaded some NFL playbooks from ebay and we found the Houston Texans' conditioning and nutrition guide and it has some good stuff in it.

I've been to the gym 4 out of the last 6 days, doing an average of 30 minutes on the ellipitical at a heartrate of ~170 in accordance with the guide. Not too hard as to use other energy sources, but high enough to burn fat.

Should I be doing this everyday or every other day?

Depends on what the program consists of - just cardio at the fat burning heart rate is safe enough to do on a daily basis.

You should look into an overall fitness program - weights, cardio, eating right, etc.

yeah, i've started eating better, since there's no point in working out if i'm just gonna re-eat what i just burned off. i'll try to incorporate more as i can.

aren't cardio and aerobics the same thing? both use the same energy supply?
