Question About Adding More ram to my computer

Right now I got a 512mb stick of ram in my computer (Mushkin Value stuff) and I was wondering what would happen if I added the GB dual package and 3 512mb sticks. Would they all be able to run at 200mhz ar cas 2.5, or would having all 3 slots slow it down.

Also, would making a 512mb ram drive be enough for photoshop?

You should be able to run the RAM at CAS 2.0 by upping the RAM voltage. Also, Photoshop will use as much RAM as you can throw at it. A 512MB RAM drive should be more than efficient. For gaming, 1 GB of RAM is enough.🙂

Depends. I tried editing a 19000x12000 scanned picture, and my computer instantly ran out of ram and virtual memory. That was 1 GB of ram and 1 GB virtual!. Thats when I learned that you dont always scan images at super duper hardware resolution beause when it comes out, its insanely huge.

As an overclocker, almost every discussion I've read indicates memory timings usually have to be relaxed with more than 2 sticks of resident ram.

My two 256 sticks are running stable at 2-2-2-7 @ 218Mhz FSB in my NF7S. I've been assured by others using this board that adding a third 512 stick - even of the same quality and latency rating - would require relaxed timings for stable operation.

Another approach you might consider for better use of your existing 512 is to identify all running processes, determine which are critical, and prevent automatic running of non-critical processes (setting non-critical process for manual start instead of automatic start). A lot of PCs are running 30 or more processes in memory, when they'd run just as stably with only 25 processes in memory. A good article about this is here: http://www.blackviper.com/

Hope this helps!
