Question about adding memory modules.

Since I won't have a NF4 motherboard for awhile, I'd like to drop my new (see sig) memory modules into the old rig for the time being.

The old setup is XP 1800+, Asus A7V-266e, (2x256) Simpletech PC2700 DDR. I'm a bit confused as to whether I should remove the PC2700 entirely and just replace with the OCZ PC3200 DDR, or whether I can just add the PC3200 with the existing RAM.

Sorry for my ignorance here but I've never really encountered this situation before.

it would work, but no point man! keep them in the packet for when your building your pc, will be a lot nicer feeling that your stuff is all new hehe

if you had ram at diffrent speeds it will automatically be set to the lowest, i.e. your 3200 will run at 2700. Does your mobo actually support pc3200 speeds? if not then I would run in all at once 🙂

You can mix and match RAM, but they all have to run at the same speed. In your case, that would be DDR2100 unless you have your 1800+ OC'd.

What I would do is add in the OCZ RAM, then sell your DDR2700. Use the money you get from that to pick up another stick of the OCZ.

Brilliant!....chugs a guinesss.....

Heh, I didnt really think that PC2700 was worth anything......I was also wrong about it being 2700, it's is indeed DDR2100 as Sonic seemed to already know.

So what would 2 512 sticks of Simpletech PC2100DDR be worth anyway? The tag on the memory says PC2100U-25330-B1. Never overclocked.

EDIT: WTF? I just removed the old memory and added the OCZ now Windows says I have to re-activate. FOR JUST ADDING MEMORY???? That is so lame.....

Anyways, thanks for the help guys.
