Question about adding another HD

So pretty much my 80GB HD ran out of space, so I installed a 40GB HD. My question is, when I installed it, it came up as a F Drive and I had to format it. I right clicked on it, then then click on Format, clicked on Format with NTFS then it formatted, so I'm wondering if I moved a bunch of my files to the new 40GB HD, and reformat my 80GB HD, well the new reformatted 80GB still be able to see the 40GB and all my files or will it not see it, and I end up losing all my files.

I'm worried, because I didn't actually install an o/s in there by booting up with an XP CD, and install XP Pro. I just formatted it, by right clicking on new HD which is F: Drive in My Computer, and clicked on format.

Are you trying to copy the OS from the 80 gig to the 40 gig? That will work, but you just simply copy files while the OS is running. You need to use something like ghost to copy the system drive. But I don't see how if the 80 gig is full that you can copy it to a 40 gig drive anyway.

It's not crystal clear as to what you intend to do. Do you mean you wish to repartition your 80G drive?
If you use Partition Magic or Partition Commander, you won't lose anything, but you drive letter for the 40G drive may change.

 time!

You're OK with the 40gig format. It had to be partitioned in order to take the format.

After you format the 80gig you will be able to copy files from the 40gig back to it -- if, and after, you have an operating system installed on one of the hard drives.

BUT, I'm not saying that you know how to move an entire operating system from the 80 to the 40 and back to the 80. I'm just saying that the files you copy to the 40gig (from the 80) will be available to copy back to the 80.
