Question about activating windows xp

I'm wondering, if I happen to reformat my hard drive like 5 times, would Windows XP not work anymore? Since everytime you reformat your hard drive, you have to activate it, and that same CD-Key can only be used a couple of times. I tried using my same xp cd to install on my brother's computer, but it wouldn't work, because when I tried to activate it, it said the cd-key has reached its limits or something. Would it still work on my computer if I reformatted my hard drive and tried activiating it or do I have to buy another XP cd?

You can reinstall the same copy of XP on the same hardware an infinite number of times. If you just reformat, and don't change any of your hardware, online activation should work every time. I've reformatted my drive I don't know how many times and have never had to call MS for activation.

Why? You've already admitted to pirating the OS, and then your upset that Microsoft has added protections to keep people like you from stealing.
