Question about AC adapter for laptops..

Need to settle something with a friend of mine. I have a laptop that takes 20V, 3.5A DC input. However, I am using an AC adapter that has a DC output of 20V, 4.5A. My friend is convinced that it's bad for my laptop. From what I understand as long as the source doesn't suck more current than the powersupply is capable of providing, it should be fine. Since my AC adapter is able to provide up to 4.5A my laptop which requires 3.5A at 20V should be just fine. Is my friend just pulling my chain or am I damaging my laptop by using that AC adapter?

It should be fine to use the 4.5A unit. If you were using a 2.5A unit you would have problems. As long as the voltage is the same, or within the same spec. It's not like the adapter is "pushing" the power into the laptop, the laptop uses what's available to it.
