Question about Abit M/B

I currently have Abit's Fatal1ty board which I know is discontinued.
CPU currently is 3200+. Socket 939.

M/B is the non SLI version.

I have read that I might be able to upgrade to AMD's dual core and according to AMD's website, it will work for CPU's 3600+ till 4800+.

I just wanted to verify that this will work even though I have the non-SLI version of this M/B.

It doesn't matter if your motherboard is the SLI or non-SLI version. As long as you flash the BIOS to the newest one available for your board, you will be able to run an Athlon X2. I have a buddy running an Athlon X2 3800+ on his Abit Fatal1ty board.

with an appropriate BIOS version the AN8 will run any S939 CPU made.
Opterons aren't officially supported but run just fine.

Thanks for everyone's help. I wanted to make sure before I plucked down any additional memory. Being that dual cores run in a variety of sizes and shapes, is it better to get a X2 with more L2 cache (like X2 4400) or a higher processor speed (like 4600+ but with 512 L2 cache)?

Maybe a newbie question but where else can I get informed right?

Easy answer, buy the x2 4400 and overclock it faster than the 4600 🙂.
