Hi all,

My friend has a Intel Xeon X3210 2.13GHz SLACU G0 Stepping Quad CPU he doesn't use anymore and is giving it to me for free to replace my E4300 @ 3.0GHz. I was wondering if anyone owns one of these and can tell me if I might be able to overclock it to around 3GHz? Also what is the multi for it? I'm hoping I can because I figured an extra 2 cores + 8mb cache over my current 2 cores + 2mb cache would help out a little for future games. Thanks!

Buy a decent aftermarket cooler, and it will do between 3.2 & 3.6 Ghz. If you use the stock cooler, leave it at stock speed, or fairly close. Quads are a beast to cool.

I have this very same CPU, with a stock cooler. It's a Q6600, with an 8x multiplier. It's been running since February 24x7 at 3 ghz at 1.275v with very reasonable temperatures. Initially it wasn't stable over 3 ghz, but after a few weeks of burn in it passed a few rudimentary tests at 3.2ghz with flying colors. Temps never went over 65C on any core with the stock cooler during prime testing.

A good cooler is cheap insurance if you're going to get more extreme though.

an ac freezer pro should get you to 3.0 + pretty easily. they've been hovering around $23 at hot deals for months. alternatively, you could live on the edge and get a used true or tuniq. I snagged a tuniq for $28 shipped the other day for example. That bad boy has my Q6600 running at 3.528 seti 24/7 load and temps don't get above 60c (35c or better distance to tjmax). I still need to ramp it up a bit, I'm hoping for ~ 3.6 for 24/7 long term use.

Thank you all for the good replies :) I have a AC freezer pro right now that I'll use for it for a little bit, but i'll probably invest in something a little bit better for it.
