Question about a ticket I got...

I got a ticket for doing 64 in a 40 zone. I was speeding, but I definitely wasn't doing 64. My car (1991 Camry) can't even do 64 on flat ground so I think that's way over. Also, between me and the cop car there was a car, so I find it hard to believe he hit me with his radar at any point. Can I fight this ticket in court and win? Even if the cop is there? Any help is appreciated. I didn't get the printout from his radar unfortunately.

Ha...no it's just old and it maxes out at 60 before it starts screaming.
And I do believe I said that I was speeding, but 24 over is 6 points on my license, and there's no way I deserve that many points if I wasn't going that speed.
Thanks for all the helpful responses.

It is a yes or no question.

It is a yes or no question.

Ask for it to be lowered. This is not a yes or no question.

It is possible if this is your first offense to go to court and have the fine/points dropped... if it is your first offense. You could always consult a traffic lawyer.... they can almoist alwys help.

My two pieces of advice:

- Traffic school
- Traffic lawyer

Use at least one of the two.

And slow the hell down, a 1991 Camry should have no trouble whatsoever doing 64 mph. My '89 Accord would hit 64 mph easily in 3rd.

I got muy last ticket for a seat belt violation. I was clocked via radar in a truck that would only do 65 flat frickin out at '74mph!

I calmly explained how the truck only will do 65. I was told 'it was my turn' and given the choice of a seat belt or logbook violation. Seatbelt was the cheapest. It seems the county he was working in was short on funds. The state cop writing the citation said as much.

According to my lawyer no person should EVER have ANY ticket on their record. All it takes is the right lawyer and enough money to pay him and the court.

There is no right or wrong here. It's all about how YOU play the system.

If I were you, I'd go to court and plead guilty but explain that you doubt your car will do the speed you were ticketed for. Offer to go to traffic school or to kiss the cops a$$ if that what it takes and a lawyer could not hurt.

I have one ticket on my record because I had the cash to pay the fine ($75 adjusted) but no cash for a lawyer.

14 months more & I'll have a clean record, & from here on out it's a lawyer.

Being broke & caught speeding sucks.

Sheesh, how messed up is that car anyway? You got pieces falling off of it or something? My '88 Accord can cruise at 90-95 mph on the turnpike without any trouble. A year ago I was driving home at night and I followed a guy at 100-105 for about 80 miles before the police picked him up (the benefit of following about a half-mile behind, they catch the first car and not you). You've got something Very Wrong with your Camry if it tops out at 60.

As for the ticket, yes the officer can get a good radar lock on you even if there was another car in front of you, unless there is an objective error on the ticket (wrong date, wrong time, wrong weather, wrong color of your car), you have almost no chance of getting it thrown out. You have a shot at getting the fine reduced a little though. Also, the officer is _not_ required to give you a printout of the radar, so it doesn't matter if you asked for it or not.

My Accord would do 100+ easily as well, though I rarely did it (read: twice).

I had a careless driving ticket from rear-ending a Taurus, the dipsh!t officer wrote the wrong time - I was at work at the time he wrote down.

Judge offered me traffic school & I took it, though I had a signed note from my employer stating I was at work at the time listed on the ticket.

Oh well, at least it's not on my record.
