Hi

I just tried to upgrade a cpu in a dell inspiron 530 to a P4 3.2 (socket 775)and it wouldn't work. Could someone tell me which cpu I have??The board suspose to be upgradable to up to 4.o ghz. Here's the markings:

INTEL 03
PENTIUM 4 3.2 GHZ/1M/800
SL7J7 COSTA RICA
3439A400

First, use your SErvice Tag number on Dell's website for compatibility - under the support menu. Second, if needed update the BIOS by downloading the required Flash Update.

As for the processor ID, perhaps just Google those numbers you posted?

That's a Pentium 4 CPU, you can't use it neither on (some) modern P45 or x48 boards nor can you use an actual Pentium (like the E6300) in your old board (i915 to 955).

'cause the formfactor and PSU is not compatible to the ATX specification you can not use them in a new system.

Well, that could helped if Intel didn't change the layout of the LGA775 so that Core2 processors are incompatible to the old P4 Socket...

At least there are 4 LGA775 sockets: P4, single die only (i915 and 925), P4, single and dual die (i945 and 955), all P4 and (some) Core2s and more modern boards do only support core 2 CPUs...

I put a P4 3ghz processor in a Dell 9200 that original came with a Q6600. During POST, it will post a message that this CPU is not supported but after 10-15 seconds, it will boot.
