Question about a driver update.

I'm running an ATi 4870 on 10.9 drivers. Should I update to new ones or are there no benefits/bug fixes for this card? More importantly, if I should update, what's the proper process for this? nVidia just lets you overwrite their drivers with new ones, but I'm not sure about how ATi does things.
