Lately I've seen a couple of Cisco routers with this default description of the ethernet.

interface FastEthernet0/0
description $ETH-LAN$$ETH-SW-LAUNCH$$INTF-INFO-FE 0$

Is there any signicance to why it would be set to that? When I see dollar signs I think variable names so I didn't know if there was any special meaning.

Edit: This description happened to come from a Cisco 1841, just FYI.

Description is a user changable field. I would guess it's a bug from the build. I've never seen that problem myself. Are these after removing the config, form someone else, brand new?

Aves, this is what you get when you use some of Cisco's config tools, like the web based configuration or their PC-based free config program. If you remove that funky description, you might find that the config tool doesn't work anymore.
