Question about a car head unit

From my car audio post, I had a question about the Aiwa CDC-204 head unit. It says that it supports CD-R/RW but that it DOES NOT support MP3 or WMA. I thought CD's are always recorded in MP3 or WMA? How can it play CD-R/RW if it can't play the format? In what other format could a music CD be burned that would play on this head unit?

Don't buy the Aiwa😉 Hell, don't buy anything branded Sony or Aiwa for your car.

I'm actually tempted to go with a $135 Pioneer unit (3700MP) but this Aiwa is almost 1/2 the cost and has front AUX input which I like.

CD-R/W is for burned audio tracks.

This means what?

CD-R/W just means that you can play cds that have been burned onto CD-R's and CD-RW's. CD's as in music cds, not cds with MP3/WMA files.

no it converts them to audio tracks which means you are limited to 80min.

*sigh*

CD R RW refers to discs that are burned in the CD format, IE 15ish songs.

MP3/WMA format is directly copying MP3 or WMA files and keeping the smaller size (~3-4 mb @ 128/192kbps) and therefore being able to fit >100 songs on each disc...

Okay, the bottom line:

Could I download music on Limewire, burn it to a disk with DeepBurner and play it on the Aiwa unit?

with the aforementioned head unit, you can copy CDs, make audio CDs, but you CANNOT create mp3 or WMA CDs, so you can burn someones Audioslave CD or make a mix thats 80 minutes in length.

But you cannot have like 5 albums of MP3s or WMA on a CD with diff folders on that head unit.

ps sorry for wierd positioning of paragraphs and bad grammatical structure.

Yes, you can burn the CD as an Audio CD not a data/mp3/wma disc...your burning program should convert the wma/mp3 into .cda which is what your head unit can play.
