question about 6800GT

So I'm installing an eVGA 6800gt that a friend bought used from another friend into her computer. She has an old power supply and it does not have the 6 pin connector to run into the back of the power supply. Is this somethat that the card needs to run, or is it only needed for SLI mode?

Thanks!

It's needed. If it's not plugged into a 6800, an alarm/speaker on the card goes off. The card should have come with a molex/6-pin adapter.

Find out what kind of power supply they are using. If it's very old and low wattage (300W or so), I'd upgrade to one that has the connector. Otherwise you can order them online, like from Newegg.

The 6-pin connector is needed with all 6800GT's because the card uses more power than the slot alone can provide.
