I've had my first projector for about 4 years now, almost 5. I have a Panasonic AE8000 and I got it when they first came out. One of the main reasons I got it was because it had minimal input lag and I use my projector to do a lot of gaming on. With the PS4 Pro out there and Xbox One X around the corner, it just had me somewhat interested in finding info out about 4K projectors, so I thought I'd ask some people here.

1. Have the prices of "good" 4K projectors gotten down to consumer levels around $3k or less?

2. Do 4K projectors have more "built in" input lag due to the 4K resolution and/or HDR?

3. Will I be able to use my current HDMI cable or would I have to run another one in my walls in order to work with a 4K projector?

I think that is all for now, thanks.

Sony just put out a $5k projector not long ago, may need it to make the review circuit and be in the wild for a while before veredict.

Optoma one supposedly has input lag and is not native 4k, just 4kuhd. It uses pixel shifting to produce 4k.

You may have to wait a few iterations for the latency issue.

Still pricey. Many years to go before we see an affordable 4k projector.

Your current cable should work.

Well thanks for the info, guess I won't be seeing my X1X or PS4 Pro in 4K for quite some time!

True 4k, the Sony vw285es is the cheapest at $5k. Baring any poor reviews which I havent seen, it is the cheapest new 4k projector. You can buy used and find a 350es or 365es for under that but they have poor contrast.

The lense is what really holds the projectors back with 4k. The lense quality on cheaper 4k models just doesnt make the picture look any better than a quality eshift (faux 4k) projector. The tech will take time for the quality components to come down to a more reasonable level.

4k units have just as much lag as most other projectors but some are worse than others, using a gaming mode should reduce the input lag to reasonable levels especially on jvc products (from ~120ms or 30ms). Just like on a tv, I would always gaming mode to minimize the lag.

Youll need hdmi 2.0 at the very least, some projectors have 10gbps and some have 18gbps inputs. Just depends on brand, most can do 4k either way with minor gamma compression.
