Question about 3dMark05 scores

My current PC scores a 2750 in 3dMark05, which is not too good...I would like something better. I was looking at getting a notebook and it scores a 3400-3600 in 3dMark05. Is this likely to only be a small improvement? If I am not satisfied with a 2750, is it safe to say I wont be satisfied with a 3400-3600 too? Like only going from 10FPS to 15FPS, something like that?

its better to use real world tests instead of a synthetic one. the labtop would be fine for gaming in that 3dmark 05 range though. why not just get a better video card?
