Question about 2 fans on 1 controller

I have 2 fans, 1 that tops out at 2450 RPM's and the other that tops out at 2800 RPM's I have a Vantec fan controller and I'd like to hook them both up to just 1 fan control. I have a 2 3pin hook up that goes into 1 but I'm just wondering if when turned all the way up if they will both function at there top RPM's? And also is there any disadfantage to this? Thanks.

If both fans have the same resistance, then that means halved voltage on both fans. Half the voltage = 1/4 the power. Assuming that RPM and power are in direct relation, one fan will spin at 612 RPM and the other at 700 RPM.

Not exactly true..in "theory" YES but in reality NO....

I have a Zalman Multi fan Speed Controller.....

I had 2-80 mm fans hooked to one of the 6 fan controllers.....
I could run them both flat out at there top rpm.....
the only issues I had was when I would thottle the rpms down below 1/2 way....

Hope that helps!!🙂

The fans would be in parallel meaning the voltage would be the same, but the current would go up. I just did a bit of research on the Vantec site, and the potentiometers are rated up to 18W per channel so you'll be fine there.

Now, since the current will go up there will be a bigger voltage drop across the potentiometer, but it won't be a big deal. You'll actually be able to slow the fans down a bit more than with just one.

On full speed the potentiometer would be out of the equation so you will get full speed from both of your fans.

Ok well here's what I want to hook up. I have a Panaflo 92mm on my XP-90 that I have hooked into my Vantec fan controller. I just got a Zalman VF700-CU for my X800XL that I want to hook into the same controller as my 92mm because when gaming i'll have them both at MAX and when i'm not i'll have them both at 1/4. Here are the specs on both of them

Since you're wanting to hook them both to one connector on your fan controller, that should be fine. Just be sure you connect only one speed sensor wire up at a time.
. Total current for both fans shouldn't even come to 500mA and that controller should be able to put out at least 1 Amp (12 Watts) per channel. IAC, total current (Amps) is the key spec and I don't see that value on Zalman's web site for the fan on that HS.
