Just a quick question I hope someone knows the answer to.

So I'd like to write the local newspaper about a newsworthy event in my area. Who should I write? The editor? They have a different email address for "email the editor" than what's listed here.

Anyone have any experience with this?

They've also got metro editors, Udesk(?) editor, and then editors for "features".

Little help please.

Edit: The newsworthy event is a non-profit fund raising spectacular-spectacular for the kiddies. Maybe that helps.

Edit 2: I'm ashamed of myself. I should know this kind of stuff by the 6th year of college.

Well, I had 10 years of college, so I can give you some guidance. ;)

Are you sending a press release or just asking them to cover your event? Either way, email the metro editor.

If you are wanting them to cover the event, give them a reason. What's newsworthy about it? Will it have interesting photo ops? Follow up with a phone call in a day or two to ask if he/she needs additional info.

If it's a press release, you don't need to follow up provided you included a contact name/number.

Give them a couple of weeks advance notice.

Thanks for the help kranky, It's not a press release, just a request (or offer) to them to cover it. I'm going to email the head metro editor (they've got a deputy too) and hopefully this thing will take off.

bump.
