* Spolier alert *, just in case there's someone out there who intends to start playing this great game :)

Trying to make my way through QFG4, 12 years late, but better late than never, right? :)

Anyway, I played it back in the day as well, and got a fair bit on the way, however, this time around Im stuck with Nikolai(sp?) and Anna the Ghost.
IIRC I need to speak to her a bunch and convince her that she's a ghost, and then speak to Nikolai, so he'll go out and do whatever he does(die to join her I presume), then get his hat and give to the skull guarding Baba Yaga's hut.

However, I can't speak to her about ghosts anymore, I could the first few times I ran into her, but every time I mentioned it, she got upset and vanished, now I can only speak about The forest, Name, and Home.
And Nikolai is the same old madman as always, I can't speak to him about anything useful.

IIRC when you start getting close, Anna will start remembering that she went out into the forst to gather berries or some such, and was attacked by a Necrotaur, right? I just can't get there.

Is there anything special that I need to do before I can speak to her about this?

I played it... but if I still remembered what to do I would have some godlike memory :p.

Does this help:

Now, to see Baba Yaga about that sensahuma. Go to the southeastern part
of the forest. If you've received the magic saying from the Leshy, or
possibly from Gypsy Davy, say it, and the bushes will disappear.
Continue to the west, and you'll see a familiar sight (6). Walk up to
the skull and Bonehead will almost immediately recognize you. You can
Tell About Gnome (most of the time) and he'll tell you he wants a deal,
(you know, like last time).

There's a little something you need to do first, though, to get this
dealing item. At night, go two screens west of Erana's Garden, and
you'll see a ghost. Talk to her, leave, and come back to talk to her
again. Leave once more, then come back one more time and tell her she's
a ghost (6). She'll accept that fact. Now, come back, and she'll
mention Nikolai. D'oh. This is Anna, Nikolai's lost wife. Go back
to Nikolai the next morning and tell him about her (6). He'll wander
off to find her. As you'll guess, he won't last long. Go out to the
forest at night (to the ghost spot), and you'll see the two lovers
reunited at last. Leave and return one last time, and the two will
thank you, and will ask if there's anyway they can help. Ask for
Nikolai's hat and he'll give it to you (2). Yeah, it's a rather
roundabout way to get one, but it's the only way...

Yeah, sounds right, the problem is, Anna still doesn't know she's a ghost, and I can't speak to her about it anymore.
Come to think of it, I can't speak to Bonehead about the gnome either, seems like the game is "stuck" for lack of a better word...

As for getting to Baba Yaga, I'm a mage, to I just throw an Open spell at that bush and it goes away :)

Yeah, but that was a long time ago in the game.
Thing is, I could speak to her about the "Ghost" topic twice, both times she'd freak, as expected, and after that, I can't speak to her anymore.

Maybe there's something else I've forgotten since I can't get anything useful from Bonehead either...

Quest for Glory?! Wow, that brings back some memories. Unfortunately I can't help you with solving the problem. In fact, it's situations like this that turned me off of these "quest" games. I'd either spend hours searching for what I missed or did wrong or read a walkthrough/cheat.

Good luck! :)

Yeah, since there are no games coming out anymore, I figured I'd have to go old school, hence Im playing Flashback(never finished due to a broken disk), Quest for Glory, and Pinball Fantasies :)

I miss quest for glory, that was a great series.

It works fine in Dosbox.
I can send you the QFG 1-4 games if you'd like, I doubt this classifies as piracy these days :)
