Query: SB Live Value and multiprocessor Win2K?

I see many references to SB Live not working right in multiprocessor systems. I also see reviewers of the VP6 using SB Live, with no statement about sound problems (maybe they only ran the benchmarks).

What is the current state?

I can personally state with certainty that a SB Live! Value works on a dual-proc system running Win2k. I have a BP6 (Dual 366's @ 550) with Win2k (no SP's installed) and the most current version of Live!Ware installed. I have had no sound-related problems. I get surround, 3d sound, etc...

The only problem I have it getting DVD playback to work. I was told PowerDVD 3.0 addresses Win2k and SMP issues, but unfortunately the demo is only limited to 5 minutes of playback, so I cannot make any "long term" stability tests. If I use PowerDVD 2.55 or WinDVD I get freezes and crashes.

I love my BP6, SB Live!, and Win2k. I highly recommend the setup for those looking for some cheap SMP lovin'

Hope this helps,
Barfy

The only problem I have is choppy sound when using the DirectX plugin for Winamp. Games, MP3 playback using the wave driver, etc. all sound great. I don't have the full LiveWare installed, just the drivers.

I have a MSI 694D-Pro IR and a SBLive Value.

Thank for replying, guys.

I do want to play DVDs, but I do not have surround speakers attached. Any specific recommendations there?

Also, I find that for both a SB Ensoniq (1371) and a Turtle Beach A3DXStream, Real player cannot set the volume. Media player and the system tray volume control work fine. If someone has Real installed with a SB Live (single or multi CPU), does the volume control work?

Are you looking for recommendations for surround speakers? DVD software that handles surround or what? I am not sure if I understand your first question.

Concerning the RealPlayer issue. Grr. This is a boiling point for me. I really hate the "volume control" for RealPlayer. The things controls *ALL* programs. If I have WinAMP running for example and hit "mute" in RealPlayer, blammo, WinAMP (and any program for that matter) is now muted. I really hate that, it comes off as arrogant by Real if you ask me. I can tell you right here and now, the volume control works on RealPlayer on an SB Live! Value edition, but like I say, it controls EVERY program !!

Hope I did not rant too much !
