Query about Asus P4B533-VM and memory

I have tried to run 2 256 sticks of DDR PC2400 Ram in my machine and I was getting quite a few random reboots and freezes when playing games. The system is a P41.6A on an Asus P4B533-VM MB, and a Radeon 8500. I am currently running with one stick of PC2400 256MB RAM, and I was wondering if I could run a 512MB stick with the 256MB stick, or if I would get problems like I had before.

Note, I was using the on-board graphics when trying to use the 2 sticks of 256MB PC2400 DDR RAM, have since upgraded to the Radeon 8500. Sold one stick to a friend, and he has not had any problems with stability in his system.

make sure you set the memory time setting to "by spd" and set mem:fsb ratio to auto...that should help
