I don't support secession of any kind, ever. The last thing we need are MORE countries on the planet.

HEY, FRENCHIES, having problems fitting in? Repeat after me:

Ze rain in ze Spain steyz meinlee on ze plein.

Quite frankly, I would like them to leave. Quebec is a financial drain on the rest of country:

1. They are getting an undeserved share of transfer and equalization payments from the federal government. (for example -- $2,189/person vs. $1,182/person in BC)

2. The French want their own culture, to the point of discriminating against the english language, and many residents of Quebec want no part of Canada, and will not ever be happy being part of Canada.

3. The Federal government and other Provincial governments have to spend extra time and money making all services available in French.

If they want to leave, let them leave, and take their share of the national debt with them.

In French, the question on the ballot asked:
"Acceptez-vous que le Québec devienne souverain, après avoir offert formellement au Canada un nouveau partenariat économique et politique, dans le cadre du projet de loi sur l'avenir du Québec et de l'entente signée le 12 juin 1995?"
In English, the question on the ballot asked:
"Do you agree that Québec should become sovereign after having made a formal offer to Canada for a new economic and political partnership within the scope of the bill respecting the future of Québec and of the agreement signed on June 12, 1995?"

The referendum took place in Quebec on October 30, 1995, and the motion to decide whether Quebec should secede from Canada was defeated by a very narrow margin of 49.42% "Yes" to 50.58% "No".

Looks to me like not many voters understood which side they were choosing when voting? In other words, they are not engaged in whatever this separatist movement is?
