Quck Arctic Silver 5 Install Help?

I read the instructions on the web site for how to install. Do I literally just pull a small ball on the processor and then just push the heatsink down on top of it without spreading it out at all? Also is it correct that I only apply the arctic silver to the processor and not to both the processor and the heatsink? thanks, Rob

I spread a real thin layer on the cpu with a credit card and then test it by putting the heatsink on it and removing it to ensure a good bond. You want the minimum amount of goop possible that still gives you maximum contact between the cpu and the heatsink. 😉

Remember, you want a super thin layer to fill the voids in the surfaces
and not a layer between the two surfaces.

If you have a thick layer, your temps will go up..up and away...

So is it better to use something to spread the ac out or will it spread itself out just by pushing the heatsink down?

I always put a small amount on the center of the processor, then use a piece of Saran Wrap on my finger to dab the compound thinly and evenly around....
