Quantum LM 30g - No DMA check!!

Just installed my LM hard drive. The install went fine,
but when I go to "Device Manager" in system - the box to check DMA is grayed out and I can't check it. Does this mean that is not running as efficiently as possible? The drive seems to be recognized ok at boot up. I'm using the 66 ide cable, and set as Cable select (not master) as per the instructions I got from quantum. Any thoughts - thanks!

Hmm, I've never experienced this, but I would change the drive to a master. This may do nothing, but it's worth a shot.

BTW, if it's not running DMA, it's definetly not running at peak performance...

What chipset are you using? The newer Intel chipsets (815,etc) dont have the DMA checkbox in device manager.

Cable select? I've never done that 😀

But when I set my things to DMA, that exact MB even, I had to do it in the IDE section.. where it has IDE 1 and 2, not the hard drive section.

Run HDTach to benchmark the drive; report back the numbers it reports back for avg read speed, burst speed, and CPU Utilization. That will be a good way to determine if DMA is actually enabled.
