I updated the op with the correct link... but this new research was just published today. yeah, discussion around quantum computing is nothing new, but this apparent research breakthrough is new news

it's all fun and games until Dr. Sam Beckett steps into the particle accelerator... and vanishes.

BRISTOL, England, Sept. 16, 2010 — A new approach to computing that uses a quantum optical chip could soon be used to perform complex calculations that cannot be done by today's computers, according to an international research group led by scientists from the University of Bristol.

Fuck, they get progress in Bristol and we get Bristol Palin. FUCK! Fucking uneducated, immoral low IQ inbred fucking retarded corrupt mofos.

Quantum computer ->
Me tossing together some code incorporating reflection, evolutionary algorithms and some other fancy heuristics ->
Skynet ->
Profit?

Theorizing that one could time travel within his own lifetime, Dr. Sam Beckett stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator, and vanished.

He awoke to find himself trapped in the past, facing mirror images that were not his own, and driven by an unknown force to change history for the better. His only guide on this journey is Al; an observer from his own time, who appears in the form of a hologram that only Sam can see and hear. And so, Dr. Beckett finds himself leaping from life to life, striving to put right what once went wrong, and hoping each time that his next leap, will be the leap home.

Edit: Damn, Jeeebus beat me to the punch.

Is that really what that show is about?

Basically he finds himself in the body of another person and his assistant, going by historical information, determines what mistake that occurred in the near future of this person that needs to be corrected. His assistant is able to communicate with him, and only him. Once resolved, he automatically gets shifted to another individual in another time. Unfortunately the process is entirely uncontrollable and he has no way of getting back to his body and timeline, although in a couple of episodes this does happen. He even jumps into the body of his assistant once in his past. It is an interesting show, to say the least.
