Quality PSU for under $40 USD?

Hello,

I am building a system for a friend, and need to keep the PSU and case to under $40-$60 combined. (Shipped...)

It was suggested that I just focus on a good PSU, and don't worry about getting a real good case.

What brands of PSUs are considered good? Looking for the 400 Watt range.

The system will be nForce 4 / A64 3000+ / 6600GT PCIe.

P.S. Any recommendations for a super cheap case to go with this would also be appreciated. (in the $20 range, shipped...)

Should be able to find an Antec 350W-420W on the forums for around $40.

And if you don't need to worry about a case looks, could just look for an old case that you just pay for shipping or even pick up that nobody wants anymore.

$70 for both. You may find an Antec Sonata at Fry's eventually for $60 AR (that is if they run the deal again)

Excellant choice, I have 2 in my house. You can add a 120mm front fan if you choose and it is easy to work with, has a ton of space and solid as a rock

For a cheap quality PSU, look at Fortron or Sparkles. There are some versions with 120mm fans if you care about PSU noise.

The SLK2650 is a better option. Its SL350 has 21amps on the 12V, and it has a Prescott duct.
