Quality of TV tuner cards

Any of you have this? Is the quality less than that of a regular tv set (considering a card for about $50 or so)?

I have a leadtek tv2000xp deluxe I think, horrible software/drivers

I actually just bought a Hauppage PVR-250 from someone on here

czech, i've read in a few forums that if you hook up a ps2/xbox to the inputs on a TV card, you'll end up with "controller lag" because it takes a second or two for the stream to be encoded and buffered to the HD before being displayed.

No longer an issue. Most if not all PCI or ATI AIW cards render the video immediately. You will still experience this lag with USB2.0 and Firewire capturing devices though.

That's good to know. I read it about the Hauppage cards (150/250/300/500).

I have a Hauppauge PVR500.
I think the picture looks different than tv, but I've become used to it. The lcd accentuates the piss poor quality of the tv broadcast here.
I'm going to be hooking up our xbox to this machine soon, and I don't expect any lag.

some cards like my 8500 AIW stream the video to the TV software from the input
other cards like my Hauppauge 150 write to the HD first and stream from there. i can tell there is a lag there because it is a few seconds behind a normal tv broadcast. im not sure if this would introduce controller lag or not. i do know there was none with an NES and the 8500 AIW

Have the same card, and think there is a slight delay.....

Yup, unless you have digital cable...quality sucks!

I am using a Hauppauge WinTV 2000 for several years with a 17" CRT and the quality is as good as any regular tube TV.

I think I paid about $50 or so about 3 or 4 years ago.
