Quality of Retail CPU Heatsinks

Is it my imagination or are the heatsinks that come with the retail CPUs getting
cheaper and of less quality.
I usually purchase the retail CPU package because of the longer warranty, the heatsink come with it, and because I'm not an overclocker.
But with the last 2 CPUs I purchased (Celeron-D, Athlon 64 2800), the heatsinks were just crap. The plastic clamp device on the celeron broke on the 1st installation attempt. The clamp on the Athlon 64 only has 1 holder on each side and the lever doesn't look like it would lock it tightly.
I have had to purchase other heatsinks for both............

Mine works like a charm. I actually thought they were getting better.

Congrats on your 7000!

You're talking about the FX-series coolers right? Those bigass copper things?

I've never had a problem with a stock heatsink, other than a prescott with no case fans, the stock fan got loud as hell. other than that, never an issue with a retail cooler. they do their job well.

The stock HSF that came with my P4 540J is good quality. It performs just as well as an AC freezer7 - I've had them both in my rig.

The A64 2800 heatsink only has 2 "hooks" on each side and the lever to tighten it down looks extremely fragile (plastic). The CoolerMaster that I ordered has 3 "hooks" on each side with a metal lever to tighen it down............
