OK, I already ordered from newegg, but I can still cancel. I saw several posts that said they were OK, and evga were good (not in stock at newegg), and a couple other mentioned.

So what is the best bang/buck ?

I can;t check now(newegg is down again), but I think my only chices were albrtron (just rma'ed a 6600gt from them), aopen, asus (ran much slower and 128 meg ram), pny, and a couple other I have never heard from. evga was there I think at about $150 more after shipping.

That's a bit pricey. PNY makes nice video cards, but I'd get either eVGA or BFG.

While I did vote for get the PNY, i don't know if I would pay $430.

I got mine @ CompUSA for like 399 and a rebate awhile back..

430 plus shipping seems high.

On the upside, i did manage a overclock of 400/1100

I picked up mine for $385 (Go Go Business Discount) at CompUSA yesterday. I installed it, and ran WoW for the better part of the evening without any issues. I have a Thermaltake Purepower 420 and the rails were steady during the entire time. I get home today and turn it on...artifacts everywhere during the POST!!! I re-seat the card and check the molex cable, same results. I put the card in a different machine - same results.

Suffice it to say, I went back to the store and got a new card. I'm a bit weary of the new card. If the same thing happens, god forbid, this will be the last PNY card I get.

Edit: I forgot to mention that I ran the card at stock speeds.

i'd get the BFG 6800GT oc at BB for $400 + tax (about $420). I just got mine today after my Leadtek crapped out (RMA'ed when newegg wasnt in stock and they just gave me my money back). It's accually quite quiet though the temps are a bit high, but the performance is awsome!

OK, Now I am pissed. They haven;t even shipped my card yet, and when their site came back up, the evga (which I really wanted) is now $388, and mine even went down to $415. I am calling first thing in the morning......

Get the eVGA or BFG. I wouldn't waste my money on a PNY card. I had them ream me on a card and it damaged my comp too. Lost a ton of money.

eVGA is my new favorite, hands down.

I have used several PNY cards for myself and some friends and I have not had any problems at all with them. I am currently using 2 PNY 6800gts for my computers and they are great. They oc easy to ultra levels with no problems at all. However i did not pay that much for mine.

I've got a PNY and its great I got mine for 301 shipped when Compusa had that price screw up. 430 seems pretty steep for a GT IMO.

Update. I found the 66.97 whql betas and loaded them for the evga 6600GT and it fixed the artifacts so far. Now what about newegg ? Think I will get something for $388 no restocking or shipping ?????

Get this PNY 6800 GT @ Ultra speeds for 350 shipped. http://forums.anandtech.com/me...2316&enterthread=y

I have had a PNY 6800 GT and it overclocked better than the EVGA I had actually. Both cards worked great for me and have the same cooler on it but just a different logo.

If you plan to go on newegg tho. Don't buy it for 420! That is a rip for any GT.

Well, sorry, I was trying to get it shipped today, so I would have it before my sons new years eve lan party, so I already ordered it. I was going to cancel, but don;t know if I can now. I will see in the morning. That DOES sound like a good deal.

I guess the kids will have to do with the following list that are currently functional:
1) my dually with the x800pro
2) Athlon64 3200+9800pro
3) Athlon64 3200@3500 (939) and Radeon 9000 (this is where the 6800 is going)
4 Athlon64 3000@2.1 + 9800pro
4) Athlon XP2700 + Radeon 9100
5) Athlon xp2400 + Radeon 8500

Oops, should be Newcastle. I was originally planning on a 3500+, but changed my mind and Winchester was ingrained in my head when I was typing my sig, LOL.

OK, I called newegg, even though it already shipped. They said they would call Fed-Ex (which they said they did later) and the package would be returned to them. So I ordered the new one for $388 (free shipping) I would have got the $350 one, but with shipping it would have been close, and I couldn;t use my VISA with him, only cash. So I am happy (for the moment).

The real test is when it comes, and to see if I have problems with it, like I did the 6600 GT

Yup, just my son and me, a bachelor(sp??) pad. What woman in their right mind would allow 14 computers in a house ? (a lot for F@H also, and some for work and laptops)
