It's good if you are not planning to move. It's good starter furniture.

Tips for buying from Ikea:

Stick with solid wood items, not veneered particle board.
Get only simple designs. The more complex ones tend to be flimsy.

I've got lots of Ikea furniture, and it's all held up very well for the past 6 years. But I'm picky about the design and build. I've got shelves, chairs, an entertainment center, 2 futons, etc.
