Quality of eVGA graphics cards?

  • Thread starter Thread starter

Namely the GeForceFX 5900non ultra that is for sale for 249.00 at GameVE.com. Is this too good to be true?
It says they use the same 2.2ns memory that the other manufacturers use. 400 core clock and 800 DDR. 256 bit of course.

What I want to know is, why is this card sooo much cheaper than its nearest competitor. Neweggs cheapest 5900 non ultra is still 330.00. WTF....

Thanks in advance. I want to buy this card but will hold off if any of you disapprove of eVGA's quality.

i heard people on futuremark forums recommending evga left and right for quality...
people there are reporting to overclock their's to over 550/1000!

hOLY JeeZ.... Those are some high o/c's. I guess that answers my question. Thanks so much guys. I will check out extreme overclocking and futuremark forums for the details. I guess I'm gettin this baby....

Thanks again.

I got mine yesterday and was pretty surprised by the quality of the card. It have a good HS\Fan and came with a couple of games.
Unfortunately my monitor keeled over so I didnt get a chance to really play with it 🙁

But if this is true you can OC these babies to ultra speeds I will try tonight. BTW what is the best tool to do this?

In about 45 mins hehe. The monitor actually still works but.................The tube is shot. It pulsates and the brightness goes in and out. Friend is bringing over a loner 19" for me tonight.

Let me know what you want to know and I can post the results.

kewl, if possible: how well it overclocks (if you are gonna overclock that is), 3dmark2001/2003 scores (make sure to use 330 patch 🙂), ut2k3 if you have the benckmark

also, please list the system specs you use to bench.

thanx

Doh doh doh heheeh

I dont have any of those benchies lololololololol

I suppose I could DL 3dmark03. And what application do you suggest to overclock the thing?

Shady, If you buy it just for benching, will you sell it to me afterwards at a big discount? LOL.....
Just kidding.
I am not going to overclock my card. But just knowing that it can (and well) tells me that eVGA used
quality memory on their 5900. And for that price! I'm going for it. Let us know how it goes Genx...

The card should run nicely in my rig. My friend already asked to buy my 9700np from me as soon as I get the 5900.

P4P800
P4 2.8 533FSB
1.0 GB DDR266 (I know I know) will get faster mem soon as prices fall again.
SB Live 5.1
80GB WD 7200
Sapphire Radeon 9700np (days are numbered)
ViewSonic 19" CRT Ultra Brite

Just ordered it. Should get it by middle of next week. PSYCHED!!!!!
Genx is probably too busy fraggin right now.... Or whatever game.
Hehe, I would be too.

yes gorillaman that CARD IS TOOO CHEAP TO PASS BY!!!i am going to get one this week i hope the price stays put or lower🙂 glad to hear its a good overclocker!!

Yup! I thought it was a cheaper made 5900 at first. You know, with the same 400 core but with cheaper memory.
Not the case though. 2.2 ns mem and overclocks to the hilt according to some reviews. I ordered mine yesterday and
should get it during next week sometime. I cant believe how low the price is. No other vendor even comes close to that price right now except BFG, and theirs is still 279.00.

I dont know if this makes any sense to anyone, but I have always liked the "smoothness" of nvidia cards. To give an example of what I mean, I have tried the ATI 9500 pro, 9000 pro, a Ti 4600, and I currently use a 9700np. I made a mistake selling my 4600. The 9700 is powerful no doubt, but I noticed much smoother gameplay with the 4600 at same resolutions. I cant expain it any better than by saying, when I move my mouse in any game when using the 9700, it looks like the screen refreshes sideways. It is very subtle but I notice it. The 4600 never did that. It was realtime movement. Smooth as glass. It's like the nvidia and ATI cards render differently.

Anyways, thats why I am so happy to get back to nvidia. I guess I just have a feel for their cards more so than ATI.

Good Luck with yours.. And where the heck is Genx with the benchies already!!!!

i personally thinks ati feels smoother for me using both 9700pro, and currently using a 5900ultra...
that said... i'd still prefer the 5900 ultra because i had a lot of problems with my 9700pro

Not crazy about PNY products for one reason only. The cooling fans. They seem to never be aligned correctly and "rub" one of the edges of the heatsink,
or the fan just go's bad too fast. Dont know why, just my observation. Cheap, Cheap, Cheap on the fan heatsinks.

The only PNY graphics card I have owned, an MX420, has a fan that is still working, and is seated just right. I guess it just depends.
