Every time my son and I play, when I look over at Dell 2007FPW it looks SO much better. We were just playing Red Orchestra 2 and get this.

My PC is at 1920x1200 with all settings on Ultra/Maxed out (AA Max+ VSync)

His PC is at 1650x1050 with 4870 with high settings (no AA or Vsync and all checkboxes unchecked).

His game looks better. Just more crisp/vibrant and colors look better.

I have a 24" TN panel (I believe) 2433bw....which looks pretty good.

Not as good as his IPS panel (I believe it is).

some pics (ps. working on 3rd PC ....I have 3 sons hehe)

I recently went to a Dell U2412M. I don't see myself getting another non-IPS monitor.

This is even coming from a PVA panel, which isn't that bad. My wife was very happy to move from her TN panel to my old PVA... until she saw my U2412M play some 1080p videos.

Ignorance is bliss though, and part of me wishes I'd have never seen a PVA or IPS and only knew about TN. Sure would be easier on the wallet.

Ya, pick up that older Dell and feel how heavy & well made it is. The fact is, manufacturers have controlled costs on new monitors thru reducing materials costs. Although in some ways the technology may have improved, I dont believe that the same attention to detail goes into new monitors. The old ones had to compete with crts, but the latest ones just have to compete with the what has been current now in the market for a number of years, which are LCDs most of which are junk. BTW, pick up an LED unit and you'll notice that there's nothing to it. The driver now is lower cost and reduced energy consumption. IQ is tertiary.

Dell's higher end monitors are still made solid. I also just got a U2412M and love it. I've been a monitor snob for years. There's no reason so skimp on the monitor. 24" IPS 16:10 is the absolute sweet spot.

I've a 30" Dell 3007 beside an original Apple Cinema 30", and the Dell has always impressed me with vibrant look next to the Apple, and I paid much less for it. People hack on Dell, but their monitors are top notch and I've never had one fail. I have a dozen LCDs dating back from 2004, all are still running perfectly.

I agree. Even back in my 6 years in IT I never had a Dell monitor failure and I deployed 100s over the years.

At home, same thing. This monitor is 4 years old...still like new.
