My power supply of 3.5 years left me yesterday and took my motherboard with it. Now I'm looking for a new one. What are the top 3 -5 power supply brands that I should be looking at (not actual PS, just the reputable brands)?

I'm looking at the 550W range (the old one was 430W). By top, I mean most reliable while being affordable. I do not care about pretty blue lights, modular cables, or super quiet adjustable fans (I wear headphones while playing).

This one's only 520 watts, but is a top-rated PSU:

Here's a couple more offerings from Seasonic in your approximate range:

This one is 550 watts, and is a top-rated PSU:

These 3 are 550-600 watts and are top-rated PSU's:

Here's the Antec version of the first Seasonic I posted:

Nearly all of these have one thing in common...they're Seasonic builds...IMO, the best in the biz.

The best quality manufacturer is probably Seasonic, who have their own brand and make PSUs for Corsair, XFX and Antec [edit: and PC Power & Cooling]. In addition, Delta makes many of Antec's units which are pretty good, and CWT makes some of Corsair's units which are also great (e.g. HX series; Corsair AX1200 is a Flextronics unit). Then you also have PC Power & Cooling and Enermax who make their own PSUs that are usually quite good, but they're not Seasonic. Some OCZ PSUs made by PCP&C are decent. Kingwin has some good high-end PSUs.

Personally I'd go with XFX Core 550. A high quality Seasonic unit for just $55, what's not to like?

Hmm. Thanks, I was sure PCP&C manufactured their own PSUs. Looks like that's not the case
